Artificial intelligence

A new way to explore the work of Hans Urs von Balthasar and Adrienne von Speyr: consult our catalog and the available texts through your AI assistant.

What is MCP?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It connects an AI assistant to a source of information. With the Balthasar & Speyr MCP server connected, your assistant can search our catalog, distinguish works from their editions and translations, and retrieve texts with source references. You can ask questions in your own language.

A few questions to get started

These short dialogues illustrate how to use the MCP server. The actual answers will depend on your question and the material available.

Where can I begin studying prayer in Balthasar’s work?

Example answer

One starting point is Contemplative Prayer, first published in German in 1955 as Das betrachtende Gebet. Its catalog description connects prayer with listening to the Word of God. I can continue looking for this theme in other works and show you the available sources.

View the work in the catalog

Are Contemplative Prayer and Das betrachtende Gebet two different works?

Example answer

They are the English and German titles of the same work. I can bring together its editions and translations, with the language, year, publisher, and links listed in the catalog.

Find texts by Adrienne von Speyr on confession and show me a passage.

Example answer

I will search the descriptions and available texts. When I find a passage, I will identify the work, publication, language, and location. If only an editorial description is available, I will make that clear.

Can I download an available text and ask you to analyze it?

Example answer

Yes. I can provide a link to the EPUB or PDF when one is available. An assistant that can read the format can help you study and quote the text, always preserving the source reference.

Connect it to your assistant

Copy this address and add it as a remote MCP server or custom connector. The service is public: you do not need an API key or a Balthasar & Speyr account.

ChatGPT

In ChatGPT on the web, enable developer mode under Settings → Security & sign-in. In Plugins, create an app with this address and choose “No authentication.” Then select it through + → Developer mode in your conversation. You need a plan that includes this feature.

In other compatible assistants, look for an option to add a remote MCP server. Availability and menu names depend on the application and your account; an organization’s administrator may need to enable this feature.

Read with the sources at hand

The catalog also includes works whose full text is not available. Book searches draw on editorial material and selected passages: not finding a theme does not mean it is absent from a work. Always ask the assistant to distinguish the author’s words from an editorial description and to identify its source.

As the rights holders, we authorize the downloading, analysis, and partial or full quotation of the texts available through the MCP server, with attribution to the author, work, publication, and original source link.
